Genre Research: Romance

The romance genre is a love story where two people overcome adversity to obtain their happily ever after. The camera angles that can be found in the romance genre are the two shot and over the shoulder shot for showing a conversation between the two lovers. Mid shots can also be found to give a detailed look of the body language of the characters.Costumes: Suits and dresses can be seen for weddings, dances, dates, and parties.Lighting: There is usually dim lights for a romantic tone inside.Acting: The actors for these movies have to pretend to be in love and may have to touch each other and kissMakeup: This is used by both men and women to boost their facial features and make them look more expressive when talking. Props: Props in romance movies include items such as rings to show marriage, a bouquet of flowers for a gift on dates, or restaurant menus for the date.Setting: Cities such as Paris or New York are used as popular cities for romance movies. Many movies would take place near christmas or winter and at night.Editing: Cross-cutting can be found in the movies in order to establish certain actions between 2 places. The pace of the editing is also shown to go faster as the plot deepens to show change. Sound: The sound is usually ambient and non-diegetic music in order to make a smooth atmosphere for the audience.Examples of romance films are Resort to Love, The Kissing Booth 3, and West Side Story.Elements that I really like from the romance genre is the suspense where one of the lovers are in danger and the other lover has to save them. This creates a mystery for one of the lovers to solve in order to help the other one out.The elements that doesn't appeal to me is the "will they won't they" factor. This makes the romance story seem like it takes forever to get the plot moving because there are always going to be issues in the way.
