Genre research: John Wick
After gunning down a member of the High Table -- the shadowy international assassin's guild -- legendary hit man John Wick finds himself stripped of the organization's protective services. Now stuck with a $14 million bounty on his head, Wick must fight his way through the streets of New York as he becomes the target of the world's most ruthless killers.
Common camera angles found in the movie are extreme close up shots, two shots, close up shots, and wide shots.
Costume: The costume that John Wick and his male adversaries wears is suits and the women wear special dresses.
Lighting: The lighting in this movie is mostly from lamps because the movie has action scenes that takes place in the dark inside or at night outside. The only time we see daylight was when John was sent to the desert.
Acting: In this movie, John Wick spends lots of time on the run or hiding because of the bounty on his head. The acting is him using many weapons to kill the bounty hunters by throwing knives or shooting guns.
Makeup: Many scenes that have John Wick are when he has blood on his face. This blood is made from makeup and serves the purpose to make him look injured.
Props: Props found in this movie are the guns and knives that John Wick and his enemies use to try and kill each other.
Setting: This movie takes place in New York and Morocco. New York was used for the city segments and Morocco was used for the desert scenes.
Common Editing: In this movie, there are cuts before every hit between a specific enemy. This is unique because usually in fighting scenes, there are cuts during each hit to make the choreography better.
Common sounds: The sounds here are sound effects of punches, stabs, and gun shots that John Wick deals to his adversaries.
Elements of the genre in the movie: The fight scenes are long and it may not be entirely clear about who is going to win the battle, so it gives the viewer the impression that John Wick may get beaten with all the hits he has taken.
The elements I like in this movie is the action scenes that took place between John Wick and his enemies. These scenes felt very realistic and were mostly done by the actors and not stunt doubles.
The main element that does not appeal to me was the lighting issue. In this movie, there are only a few scenes where John Wick sees sunlight and for the rest of the movie it has dark lighting. This lighting could be set to the dark theme of murder and revenge, but there are other solutions to set the theme this way.
